Governor Greg Abbott announced today that every Texas high school will have a chapter on their campus.

Just over an hour ago, a press conference was held in Austin. Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Dan Patrick and Turning Point USA Senior Director Josh Thifault were there to discuss a new initiative coming to all Texas high schools. It is called Club America, which is associated with Turning Point USA.

Club America is a high school program for Turning Point USA. Currently, they have almost 300 Club America programs in high schools throughout the state of Texas. In fact, Memorial High School here in Wichita Falls already has a Club America on their campus and so does Holiday High School as well, according to the website. The clubs aim to “build strong networks, spearhead impactful initiatives, help students register to vote, and inspire meaningful conversations about the foundations of a free society,” according to their website.

During the press conference, Governor Abbott was asked what happens if a school does not want this program on their campus. “Let me be clear: Any school that stands in the way of a Club America program in their school should be reported immediately to the Texas Education Agency,” the governor said in the press conference this afternoon.

No word on how quickly schools must get a Club America on their campus without facing repercussions. Students and parents are encouraged to check out the resources Club America has to offer on their website.
